Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

          High School Diploma or equivalent

          Ability to stoop, crouch, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time

          Ability to assist in student medical procedures (including, but not limited to: support in g-tube feeding, physical therapy in a public swimming pool, changing diapers, etc.)

          Ability to assist in student de-escalation and physical intervention when needed (including, but not limited to: support with students who bite, kick, hit, spit, and can be verbally aggressive, etc.)

          Ability to ride a bus and implement a support plan for student(s) riding the bus.

          Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and assist with Emergency Response Protocols regarding student physical supports.

          Willingness to complete an on-line training program with topics ranging from student interactions, student success, and professional conduct

          Willingness to complete an on-line training program with topics emphasize managing aggressive student behavior

          First Aid adult/child CPR training (completed within 30 days from date of hire and to maintained for the duration of this position).

          Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred.

 
 
Description

PARA SPECIALIST @ MES, 27 HOURS/WEEK

Essential Job Functions

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

          Assist in health plans for identified students in the school setting

          Assist with students identified as requiring a behavioral intervention plan in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in small group, 1:1, and large-group instruction

          Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior with an emphasis on successful re-integration with peers in the school setting.

          Assist school nurses in the preparation and delivery of health-related needs of the students.

          Assist teachers in preparation and delivery of materials specific to student’s individual learning needs

          Assist students with gross and fine motor strengthening programs and activities

          Assist students with an areas of speech/language affecting successful communication

          Assist in recreational, playground, and/or physical education activities

          Coordinate activities and meet with teacher(s) and school nurse(s) on a regular basis

          Coordinate activities with teachers on a regular basis

          Assist the teacher and the school nurse in the maintenance of records

          Supervise and correct students as necessary to maintain a safe environment, with a focus on Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports

          May escort students to and from locations

          Use computers and related technologies as needed by the program goals.

          Professionally interact with students, staff, and community

          Comply with all district policies and procedures

          Perform related duties as assigned

 

          Ability to assist in the carrying out of Emergency Response Protocols for Behavior Intervention Plans and Health Plans during safety incidents.
