Description |

|
HEALTH AIDE, PARA SPECIALIST @ DIST 27 hours/week
Purpose: The Health Aide provides support and assistance with the efficient operation of nursing services of the school. To accomplish these tasks, the Health Aide, under direct supervision of the nursing staff, provides support to the district nurse, teachers, and administration of the Wasatch County School District. Responsible to: District Nurse and Principals Essential Functions: - Provide support to assist with the efficient operation of all nursing responsibilities.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all health equipment as required.
- Support the value of a healthy and safe school environment.
- Support the philosophy and vision of Wasatch County School District
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: - Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must be able to climb stairs and use a small stepladder.
- Complete work with many interruptions.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle for travel between district facilities.
General Responsibilities: - Assist with the preparation and arrangements for health screenings performed by the school nurse; record student test results; schedule secondary appointments if further testing is required.
- Monitor health charts and send out notices for missing health information.
- Record health data on district data collection system.
- Assist nurse with classroom inspections for communicable diseases.
- Performs following training and as required, the following medical procedures including, but not limited to diabetes monitoring and insulin administration, catheterization, G-tube feedings, and other skills and duties as assigned.
- Performs head lice screening, excluding infested students when necessary, performs rechecks and readmits according to approved policy and procedure.
- Distribute medications according to prescribed procedures.
- Perform routine first aid procedures and assist in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures.
- Refer suspected child abuse or serious illness/injuries to school nurse according to established procedures.
- Keep CPR and First Aide certification current.
- Perform monthly maintenance checks on AEDs at the school site.
- Perform related duties as assigned by nurse or principal.
